 Trickster?
If so, what?
 Conjure Woman?
If so, who?
 Fate
 Anansi
 Cass (mom)
 Asuquo
 None
 Asuquo

Fate: Lesson learned
A lesson I learned from the short story “Fate” is that faith is extremely important in person’s life because a situation may become person vs. natural force and how this conflict between these two forces can lead to non-satisfaction.

Asuquo: Lesson Learned

A very important lesson I learned is that when a person envy’s someone it can lead to many situations. In this story there is also trust that is being lack.

  •                                                         Compare and Contrast

Through the stories that I have read so far, I can identify many similarities and differences between the characters, Letitia, Rosamojo, and Asuquo. For example, Rosa and Letitia have some similarities in heir character flaws. They both seem to be in a similar state of mind. Although in the beginning, Rosa seems weak and timid but eventually changes when she becomes brave and powerful and kills her own father. Rosa is more of a dynamic character because based on the story, she changes into a more courageous person. In addition, Asuquo is a static character that starts off strong and ends strong in his own way. Furthermore, Letitia and Asuquo both become static characters that relate to each other. Not necessarily common flaws and strength but the idea is the same.

    Reflection

Through its' descriptive language the reader can create a vivid image of the setting in their minds. These

descriptions are what made the story more compelling. At the beginning of the story, it was more

interesting than other African American slavery stories I have read before. There were many motifs,

stereotypes, and metaphors that were easy to point out. George was a trickster and is eager to get into

mischief and get what he wants. I found it interesting that John didn't age at all after he too became

plateye. This story gives a great idea of freedom and how freedom means that you are able to control

your life, despite the fact that someone else is in control of you.

    Masquerade

    “Masquerade”
After reading “Masquerade” I learned that people are not mind readers and they will not know whether you like something or if something is bothering you. In order to express how you feel about a certain situation, you must speak up no matter how afraid you are of the outcome because later, you might just end up regretting it. This story exposes a situation of Frankie Lennon’s regret about not expressing her beloved feelings towards Stacey. She knew she loved Stacey but never really told her. I believe that this demonstrates a very important lesson in life. A lesson that teaches the reader to face their fear and express themselves because sometimes it is your silence that causes the other person’s actions. No human can read your mind therefore the only way they will find out if you are okay with something or if something is bothering you, you must present the issue to them. Sometimes it can be a sense of confusion to both sides and even pride might get in the way of being able to express how the person feels. This, I believe, is the mistake us human beings make. We can’t assume the person knows how we feel because they do not. And when we think they know, we end up in silence. That silence can be the beginning to the end.
